Idemitsu's corporation logo, originally designed by founder Sazo Idemitsu, was inspired by conceptual drawing of the universe by Sengai Osho, a Zen priest of Japan’s Edo era. Each of the three elements in the drawing represents a particular facet of the universe. The circle represents the infinite, the basis of all beings. The beginning of all forms is represented by the triangle, out of which comes a square, being a triangle doubled. This doubling process goes on infinitely to create the multitude that is the universe.
